MMG 1230H Cancer Genetic Counselling

Description: Students will learn about cancer genetics and genetic counselling for families at risk for cancer. This class will focus in the psychosocial issues related to cancer genetic counselling and the ethical, legal and social issues of predisposition testing for cancer susceptibility. The students will develop their skills obtaining cancer family histories, assessing cancer risk and counselling for this patient/family group. Finally, this class will provide fundamental information about the role of genetics in the etiology, diagnosis and management of different hereditary cancer susceptibility syndromes and genetic conditions that confer for cancer. (Time: 1 session, 2 hours per week).
