Biosketch:

Cheryl Shuman, MS, CGC, received a Master of Science degree in Genetic Counselling from Sarah Lawrence College in 1979, following which she worked in the Genetics-Birth Defects Center at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.  In 1981, Cheryl joined the Division of Clinical and Metabolic Genetics at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).  She was certified in Genetic Counselling by the American Board of Medical Genetics in 1982 and became a Charter Member of the American Board of Genetic Counseling in 1993.  In 1998, she was appointed Program Director of the MSc Program in Genetic Counselling at the University of Toronto and in 1999, was appointed Director, Genetic Counselling at SickKids.  As well, she holds a Project Investigator appointment in the Research Institute at SickKids based on her involvement in clinical research (genotype/phenotype correlations in overgrowth syndromes with cancer predisposition, most specifically Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome) and in research related to the provision of genetic counselling (i.e. education, ethical challenges, psychosocial issues, etc.).  Cheryl is a member of the CAGC, NSGC, ABGC, ASHG, and the AGCPD (Association of Genetic Counseling Program Directors).
