The Hurd lab is focused on determining how mitochondrial DNA is inherited from mother to offspring, and how mitochondria influence stem cell fate and differentiation. We use an integrative approach that includes molecular genetics, cell biology and state-of-the-art microscopy in the model organism Drosophila melanogaster and in mammalian cells
